Most art exhibits are about the finished product. Rather than showcasing the end result, CREATION is about the process that goes into making a work of art.
The Moment of CREATION
Stan Gerbig photographs scupltor Brandie Roberts as she works
As a multimedia installation, CREATION examines the works of a number of artists working in different media to present the beauty of the creative experience in a way that is meaningful to the audience.
However, this isn't meant to be a simple documentation of the process; it's meant as a powerful artistic statement in its own right, and to provoke the audience to become more deeply invested in the art itself.
The show includes photographs detailing various stages of the creation of the work, including portraits of the artist, candid pictures of the artist in her creative process, and images of each artist at work at the business of his medium - mixing glazes, hanging a gallery show, doing research or speaking with clients.
Each piece of CREATION features four to six photographic images of the artist at work, as captured by Stan Gerbig and Kate Walton. Additionally, an example of each featured artist's work is displayed in order to physically demonstrate the relationship between process and product.
